Job Description


Job Title: Campaign Coordinator

Salary Grade: National Joint Council 31-34,starting salary of £29,277
Incl. London Weighting

Hours: 35 hours per week

Reports to: Consortium Coordinator

Based at: Consortium Office, Grayston Centre, 28 Charles Square,
London N1 6HT



The Position
The Campaign Coordinator is the focal point for the Stop AIDS Campaign (SAC), which is the campaign of the UK Consortium. Working closely with, and coordinating the work of UK Consortium members, the Campaign Coordinator will lead the implementation of the SAC as agreed with members. This includes coordinating the drafting of policy papers and organisation of campaign activities in pursuit of the overall Campaign objectives.

The UK Consortium on AIDS and International Development is a group of more than 80 UK based organisations which work together to understand and develop approaches to the problems created by the HIV epidemic in developing countries.
Through information exchange – networking – advocacy – and campaigning, opportunities are provided for members on a regular basis to discuss the many diverse concerns and interests raised by the impact of the AIDS epidemic.

Areas of Responsibility
1. Joint planning of SAC strategy and its implementation
2. Development and maintenance of external relations relating to the SAC
3. Work with Student Stop AIDS Campaign (SSAC)
4. Development and co-ordination of the SAC membership
5. Financial Management, budget setting, and general administration of the SAC






1. Joint planning of SAC strategy and its implementation
• Work with members to develop the SAC strategy and objectives as part of the work of the UK Consortium
• Coordinate the drafting of policy positions using members’ knowledge and expertise
• Coordinate SAC policy work so that there are clear campaign demands on each issue in the lead-up to events and activities
• Coordinate the gathering and analysis of information regarding the political landscape in order to be able to develop strategic actions
• Coordinate and develop a programme of activities to promote the SAC, and raise public awareness
• Motivate & co-ordinate the members to engage in the planning and organisation of specific activities making maximum use of their skills and expertise
• Ensure all activities and events are properly organised with members, [being mindful of all legal and health and safety regulations]


2. Development & maintenance of UK Consortium external relations, relating to the SAC
• Develop advocacy channels for the SAC with various government departments including the Department for International Development (DFID), Treasury and the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) and relevant European Institutions
• Coordinate SAC lobbying meetings with government departments
• Maintain and develop dialogue with Parliamentarians, MPs, and the All Party Parliamentary Group on AIDS
• With the Consortium Co-ordinator develop and manage relations with international institutions, such as UNITAID, the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, TB and Malaria, UNAIDS and the EU.
• Coordinate members’ campaign lobbying and activities, with other networks if appropriate, in the lead-up to international events such as the G8, and Global Fund Replenishment Conferences.
• Liaise with other Stop AIDS Campaigns worldwide and explore opportunities for joint actions and internationalising the campaign if appropriate
• Collaborate with other health networks eg Action for Global Health and TB Coalition to work on wider aspects of health system strengthening and co-infections


3. Work with Student STOP AIDS Campaign (SSAC)
• Support and work with the SSAC Coordinator to coordinate SAC activities
• Encourage the involvement of students in planning and organising of campaign actions and activities
• Assist in the planning and implementation of training events of the SSAC


4. Development and co-ordination of the SAC Membership
• Encourage and motivate members of the UK Consortium to participate in campaign lobbying and activities
• Organise regular meetings with prepared agendas and paperwork
• Ensure minutes are taken at all SAC meetings, including all the sub groups, and are kept up-to-date.
• Ensure proper [notification in advance and] reporting on campaign activities to the membership, Consortium Executive Committee and Consortium Quarterly Meetings

5. Financial management, budget setting and general administration of SAC
• Prepare yearly Campaign budgets for approval, and budgets for ‘special’ Campaign activities as required
• Manage the SAC budget with monthly income and expenditure records
• Assist on behalf of the Campaign with any relevant Consortium funding application.


Person Specification
Knowledge and Experience
Essential
• At least 2-3 years proven knowledge and experience of advocacy and campaigning
• Proven knowledge and experience of the UK parliamentary system and of working with relevant government departments & donor communities
• Proven experience of providing on-going support to organisations involved in advocacy and lobbying
• Proven experience of working with members of a network and knowledge of how it is different to working in one single organisation
• Knowledge of HIV/AIDS and its impact in developing countries
• Understanding of the key issues involved in access to prevention, care and treatment in the context of International Development

Desirable
• Experience of relevant health advocacy and policy issues in the UK and Europe

• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Proven ability to develop consensus policy positions and write high-quality policy papers
• Proven ability to develop and implement advocacy strategies
• Proven ability to support local, national and international advocacy initiatives of others.
• Able to motivate/inspire others with ideas
• Innovative, energetic, solution-orientated approach to work
• Ability to represent the SAC in a variety of fora in the UK and internationally
• Strong project planning skills with proven ability to organise and prioritise tasks and to manage own time efficiently
• Ability to understand and manage project finances
• Computer literate (Word, Excel, Internet, Outlook, Project, Powerpoint)
• Available and able to travel in UK and Europe.
